Christian Desjardins
Vice President, Water and Engineering Design
Christian has nearly 30 years of experience in the environmental field, particularly in water treatment. In 2024, he joined Groupe HELIOS as Vice President of the Water business line, where he leads engineering, operation, management, and maintenance activities for all types of water-related infrastructure throughout Quebec.
HELIOS Mission
Quality, safety, and the environment are at the heart of his commitment at HELIOS. Christian leads water operations in Quebec, overseeing a passionate management team and close to 500 people working in the field on water treatment and preservation. His mission is to develop optimized operational systems so that our clients benefit, at all times, from a reliable, safe, and professional service.
With HELIOS, I am privileged to make a difference every day in protecting water, this great natural resource of ours. I place particular importance on the synergy between our qualified, committed, and specialized technical and field teams, in order to provide a service based on excellence, with a high level of performance, and to guarantee the safety of Quebec's facilities.
Education
A civil engineer trained at Université d’Ottawa, Christian also completed a master’s degree in civil engineering with a major in environment at École polytechnique de Montréal. Convinced that professional development is a cornerstone of the profession, he completed project management training for professionals and executives at HEC and at the Project Management Institute in order to obtain his PMP certification.
Background and Experience
Throughout his career, he has taken part in numerous drinking water and wastewater treatment projects, including major design and construction projects for new drinking water facilities, the rehabilitation of existing facilities, multiple pilot studies and water characterization studies, as well as technology development projects, both in Canada and internationally. In addition to these management and field achievements, Christian has contributed to and published numerous studies on water treatment system technologies and processes.
Involvement and Governance
Since 2002, he has been a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ). He served as chair of the board of directors of Ingénieurs sans frontières Québec from 2004 to 2006. Christian has been a licensed professional engineer in the province of Ontario (PEO) since 2023 and practised in New Brunswick (AEPGNB) from 2016 to 2020.
On a personal note, Christian is an eternally curious adventurer. He has learned several languages during his many stays abroad, notably in Morocco, China, Puerto Rico, and Costa Rica. In 2014, he embarked on a round-the-world trip with his family, his partner, and their three children, then aged 6, 10, and 12.
